We have known for a long time that you can use anything for your hair. For example, you could take great care of your hair with coffee. You see the craziest tips on all kinds of channels. But beer? We hadn't really seen it yet and certainly hadn't used it. We mainly think of the smell of beer, which we would rather not have in our hair. But, because we read about it regularly, it was time to investigate the facts and myths about beer.
Beer in your hair: good or not?
According to all kinds of beauty sites, beer gives shine and volume to fine hair in particular, and it would also brighten up dull hair. This is mainly due to the proteins and B vitamins contained here. You would then first have to throw the drink into a bowl and let it sit at room temperature for 10 hours. If you massage this beer in the morning before showering, let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse it out again, this would work. Quite a job then.
There are also ready-made beer shampoos. Because this drink consists of sugar, malt, hops and yeast, the last two ingredients are said to contain a lot of proteins that are good for damaged hair. Sugar would also close your hair ends, making it shine more. This is according to the manufacturers of these shampoos – we're not sure whether to believe this!
Do these ingredients really have that much influence on your hair?
On the website of catering cheap they carefully selected the different ingredients. The first hop is to increase the shelf life of the beer. This is where the bitter taste and foam layer come from. It is also found in all kinds of creams and helps against skin infections and eczema. This could be good for reducing dandruff, as this is also a mild form of eczema so hops could indeed work. It could also give more volume.
Then there is yeast in beer. Yeast ensures that the glucose is converted into alcohol and carbon dioxide. Without yeast, there is no alcohol in the beer. Brewer's yeast contains Biotin, which is the same as vitamin H or vitamin B8, which is good for the recovery process in your body. The Biotin could therefore have a positive effect on your hair. But it is not absorbed by your skin, so it is doubtful whether this would work in your hair.
Alcohol in your hair
Alcohol can have some influence on your hair. It removes dirt and grease, so it can also help against greasy hair. The oil in your scalp also becomes less oily. But a beer contains so little alcohol that the effect will be minimal. So there is no real reason to wash your hair with it. Or maybe you have to deal with a huge beer shower during a festival.
So is washing your hair with beer a fact or a fable?
When you look at it all together, there is actually no reason to use it as a shampoo. It has little to no positive effects on your hair. The proteins it contains, which are said to improve hair structure, also have no effect on it. So, it's not bad, but there's no reason to do so. At least you don't have to worry about that bad smell in your hair!
